Traditional Foods Diet
Ten years ago when my kids healed from 6 years of debilitating eczema just by changing our diet, I initially thought it was a miracle!
That first year I spent digging in to discover what happened and I was introduced to this idea of “food as medicine.”
In a nutshell, when you eat a diet rich in nutrient dense foods, foods which are unprocessed and from animals eating their traditional diet (for instance, cows eat grass not grain) you get a product that heals and prevents disease.
Ten years later no one in my family has had antibiotics or had to visit the doctor for illness. We just don’t get sick anymore!
And over the years we have heard and witnessed hundreds of health recovery stories from our customers because they switched to a traditional foods diet and healed — healed eczema and allergies and also many digestive disorders including crohn’s, ulcerative colitis, IBS, and all kinds of Autoimmune disorders.
Why don’t you hear about this in the news? Because there’s a pesky law in this country that says you cannot claim a food product heals illness, you can only claim drugs heal illness.
Yes, you read that right. You can only make the claim that drugs heal. Even though my intuition and anecdotal evidence overwhelmingly proves otherwise, and a few anonymous University researchers also confirm this fact, apparently the government thinks we don’t really know what we are talking about.
The one *drawback* to this kind of eating, however, is that in our fast-paced society of convenience it takes a huge commitment to prepare these foods. People ask me all the time how I am able to work full-time + have 3 kids and a husband and a household to run AND get 3 nourishing meals in my family per day.
My answer is it is a choice I make and it’s also your choice to make, and it takes commitment to this kind of lifestyle. There is not a fast shortcut but there are definitely ways to organize things so it happens.
I spend a large part of every Sunday preparing for my family’s meals throughout the week – I start my bone broth, I make soup for lunches from the rest of last week’s bone broth, I make my fermented veggies and kefir, I hard boil eggs for quick snacks, and I select my meats for the week from the freezer and put in the fridge to thaw. Lastly I make sure we have a fridge full of veggies.
And that’s really it!! The main thing is that I designate a few hours one day a week and I let nothing else get in the way of that. And my family and I experience almost complete immunity because of it. We enjoy a life where we never miss work or play because of illness or allergies, indigestion or rashes, headaches or belly aches. We just don’t get sick. And you can do the same!
Below are a few simple videos that will show you how to make the few simple foods that are the foundation of a traditional foods diet.
How To Make Kefir
The most frequent and dramatic health recovery stories we hear on our farm are from our customers who start using our milk to make kefir for themselves. By eating 1/2 cup or so daily they are healing from acid reflux, many digestive disorders including crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, and all sorts of auto-immune diseases.
How to Make Bone Broth
The very first food to begin a traditional foods diet. Bone broth starves out the bad bacteria in your gut and intestines so the good bacteria can flourish and heal you. Also the basic tenet of the GAPS diet. Calms and soothes your digestive system so it can do the work it’s really supposed to do which is have strong immunity!
How to Make Fermented Vegetables
Chock-full of probiotics and easy to make, fermented veggies are more easily digested by your system, because fermented foods start the digestive process before you eat them. This frees up your digestive system to heal and protect, it’s real job.
